Classroom Art!

Normally I like to share pictures of some of the art we've completed in class since parents don't always get to see our art displayed on the bulletin boards. Here are some examples of what we've been working on!

Another art update! Check out what we've been working on since Spring Break! We've been busy :)

This was a great assignment that the students did. We read a book called "The Best Part of Me" that was written by students, sharing their favorite part of themself and why they love that part of themselves. At first, the students thought the project was weird, but then realized that they all have a part of their body that is important to them. Whether they need their legs to play their favorite sport, their eyes to see the sunshine or their heart to care... everyone has SOMETHING about them that they love.

For this art assignment, we practiced shading with pencil crayons, creating shades from 10 (darkest) to 1 (lightest) and then applied what we learned to this cool looking art!

And here's some art we did today with one of our classroom mom's. Ricky's mom was nice enough to come in and teach the students about Chinese characters. Once the students learned about how the characters are created and formed, they got to create their own symbol for a word. They did a fantastic job!

Here is some art to check out! Due to technical difficulties with uploading pictures, I have been having a challenging time updating this art page! So I apologize for the delay! There are 3 pictures below to showcase what we have done for art this past month. First of all, we did "Silly Sandwiches" which focused on healthy vs. unhealthy eating. I only have a picture of the unhealthy ones, since the healthy sandwiches got taken down for new art! We also worked on jerseys for the Olympics! Students got to design their own jersey for Canada to use in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. Lastly, there is some art we did after learning about Picasso and his art style of Cubism! Enjoy!

**The Silly Sandwich picture is not working still :( Sorry!!

I've been a little bit behind on updating the art (oops!), so here are a few art projects that we've done over the last month!

Here is our latest art project - Symme-trees! We've been learning all about symmetry in math - so this was a perfect way to show what we've learned so far. They had to make sure that both sides of their Christmas trees were congruent.

This art was so much fun! The students got to draw a continuous "scribble" and then trace shapes and color them in. They focused on overlapping shapes and finding complementary color combinations.

In art this month we learned about colors. We explored primary, secondary & tertiary colors; mixed colors (and named them!), and learned about warm and cool colors. Here is some art that we did which shows our understanding of the warm and cool color contrasts

Here's a few more art projects the students have completed in the last little bit!

For this art, students drew themselves as caricatures. A caricature is an imitation of a person that exaggerates specific parts of the person to create a comic effect. The students loved making a cartoon version of themselves and adding a background that told something about their personality!

For Halloween, we completed some more work for our bulletin boards. The first picture is of some of our "Diamond Diamante" poetry (with a Halloween theme and spooky writing!). Diamond Diamante poems focus on using nouns, synonyms, adjectives and verbs! Great for practicing all those things we learn during grammar lessons!

The students also got to create their own monster caricature! Check out these spooky creatures!

This is some art we just finished last week. We practiced using lines and shapes and created buildings with domed roofs. The students used washed out paint, outlined in black sharpie and colored the domes with bronze and/or gold sharpie pens.

Here is a picture of the student's "ME" shields which show 4 different drawings about themselves and a typed write-up to go with it, explaining why they chose to draw each picture.
