Today the students all brought in their creature projects - and I must say, many of them are fantastic! In science we have been learning about habitats and communities and this was a great way to tie together some of the things we've learned! Students had to pick one habitat that their creature would live in (from the ones we learned about in our science text book) and then make sure it had 2 adaptations to help it survive in its particular habitat. One had to be structural and the other could have been structural or behavioral. It was great to see how students used all sorts of recycled materials, building blocks and art supplies to create their own unique animal! The students will be presenting these on Monday and Tuesday of next week. If parents want to stop by and come check them out after school, please feel free! They will be on display until we are finished presenting and then they can take them home. If you can't make it by, I have taken pictures of all the creatures for your viewing pleasure!

Our daffodils are arriving!
Today we went outside (braving the cold) and did our first measurement of our daffodils... they began popping up a couple weeks ago! We will continue to measure them once a week and track their growth on a bar graph. We are doing this with a program called "Planting a Promise" by Jim Weise (one of my former teachers!). This will help us tie in some learning outcomes from both science and math! The students were very excited to go out and measure how much their daffodils have grown... some were only 1 cm, but some have sprouted up to about 6 cm! We're all hoping that this very cold weather doesn't impact their growth too much!
Check out below to see some pictures of our daffodils and how we are tracking their growth!
